Welcome to Generation Boomer.

In this summer edition of Generation Boomer we explore the Health Care Reform bill, legislation that will change the way boomers access health insurance as well as the CLASS Act which seeks to offer long-term care options for those aging with disabilities, or chronic illness heading into retirement.

Recent studies show that many of today’s boomers are less healthy than previous generations largely because of the technology explosion. Boomers are spending more time engaged in sedentary practices such as working on the computer opposed to staying active and exercising. Locally one business offers an opportunity to build muscle strength and gain mobility, necessary for independence as we age.

On the fun side, Carolyn Prusa takes us to South Africa where she explores the vineyards of Africa’s southernmost point, the Cape of South Africa, where some of the best wines are produced today. We also tour a Greek winery seated in the cliffs above the main harbor of Santorini. And finally, there has been plenty of media about the ancient city of Rome. To understand this European Jewel, we journey to St. Peter’s Basilica and learn the mysteries of religion and faith.

For 50 something singles, Jo Anna Philips gives us dating advice in her Guide to Life in the Single Lane; good tips for those looking for that significant other. While Chef Joe writes about his journey hitting mid-life milestones and aging.

It is time for seeding and planting. Whether your thinking of planting an Edible Garden or a Companion Garden of vegetables and flowers, Marnie Brennan provides tips to get us going. From perennials to trees, there is nothing more rewarding that beautifying the homestead with nature.
